FUM Announces New Staff Responsibilities, New Staff

On January 1, 2024, Friends United Meeting will be shuffling the responsibilities of several staff members.

Karla Jay, who serves as FUM Coordinator of Global Ministries, will expand her role with FUM. She will provide direct oversight of FUM’s growing Latino ministry programs, serve as the liaison with the African ministries, coordinate the Living Letter Programs, and administer global ministry finances. She has served FUM for three years and well deserves this promotion.

FUM is excited to announce that in the new year, Michael Sherman will be joining FUM as our Coordinator for North American & Caribbean Ministries. Michael has served as the Program Director at Quaker Haven Camp, pastor of Raysville Friends Church, and is currently serving as the pastor of Memorial Friends Church in Muncie. He has a degree in Organizational Leadership and Supervision from Purdue University, and an MDiv from Earlham School of Religion. In this new, full-time position, Michael will work closely with Yearly Meeting leaders and the North American Ministries Committee of the FUM General Board. He will provide administrative oversight for FUM’s programs that strengthen the ministries, congregational health, and spiritual vitality of North American members. He will also serve as FUM’s primary point of contact with Jamaica Yearly Meeting, and provide staff support for FUM ministries in Belize.

These staffing changes will allow Kelly Kellum, FUM General Secretary, to step away from many of his responsibilities for direct oversight of global ministry programs to focus more attention on member relationships and fundraising. Please pray for our staff as we seek to use our staff resources to serve the FUM community.
