Friends United Meeting’s General Board (North American and Caribbean section) met in Richmond, Indiana last week, October 2–4. They continued to consider the significant decline in FUM’s operating funds, and how that situation might be addressed. Among their exercises was a challenge to think about FUM’s message to the world—what does FUM have to offer the world? Emily Provance, clerk of the Advancement Committee, compiled board responses into this “report.” This is how individual members of the FUM board see FUM’s message to the world.

Every person is worthy and loved by God.FUM is a global partnership connected through God to uplift and serve those in need.
God intends for our world to flourish, and God intends for all of us to flourish.
Improve people’s lives, education, health care—neighbor-loving business.

Jesus Christ calls everyone to work together to promote peace, education, food security, in a Spirit-led community. Love God and love your neighbor.
Recognizing that of God in everyone, we seek to respond to basic human needs in ways that are energizing, equipping, and encouraging.
Share God’s love and light through various ministries and people, programs and people.

The good news of Jesus and the apostles persists still and is relevant to our modern world if we can be more faithful to that in the face of mounting oppressive forces, including some who call themselves Christian.
The value of every person.
There is Light within each of us. We need to respect, have compassion.

Together, we CAN follow Jesus, combining lights, bringing the Holy Spirit with us.
We are committed to applying the teachings of Jesus to the peaceful resolution of all conflicts and the building of a global community, while insisting on honesty and integrity in all governmental, organizational, and personal interactions.
