We are committed to carrying forward the inspired theme selected for the 2020 Triennial. We affirm the gospel message that Christ Jesus is inviting the community of Friends to Come. Abide. Go. To continue our spiritual readiness, we are inviting the global community of Friends to participate in the 30 Days of Prayer, beginning on Sunday, 12 July 2020 (the day the Triennial was scheduled to begin). The prayer guides prepared for the Triennial will be released by June.

In the week since we distributed the phones, our students have sent hundreds of messages to each other and the staff. We have organized the distribution of food packages. We have shared community support. We have settled disputes about who said what about whom. We have shared online resources and opportunities. We have done homework tutoring and video lessons. We have greeted each other in the morning and bid each other farewell in the evening.

In every context, Friends are especially attentive to the needs of the most vulnerable people in our communities. Among FUM’s ministries around the world, immediate needs are becoming clearer as the coronavirus impacts lives and livelihoods. For instance, in both Belize and Samburu, the ministry teams have identified food security as one of the most pressing needs. We’re pretty sure these aren’t the only places with this particular concern.

Certainly, this is a moment when Friends must be gathered and centered in the peace, wisdom, and healing grace of God. These days of self-isolation provide new opportunities for Friends to reflect, meditate and pray.

As of today (March 17, 2020), we have not decided to cancel the Triennial. We anticipate making a firm decision by early April. While we are accepting registrations, we are cautiously aware this may change. Currently we are waiving the requirement to pay a deposit upon registering.
